Why parents love SnoozeShade Plus Extra
SnoozeShade Plus Extra gives little ones in the stroller seat reliable sun protection and an easy way to nap on the go.
Made from our air-permeable EziBreez® mesh, it fastens with hook-and-loop straps and is the only sun and sleep shade range approved by the INPAA (Infant & Nursery Products Alliance of Australia).
How we measure sun protection
We've recently updated the way we measure sun protection, after speaking directly with the experts at the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA). Like most baby sun products, we've always quoted the UPF rating, and it's a genuine, independently tested result for our fabric. But there is now a more up-to-date standard.
UPF is a clothing standard, written for fabric worn against the skin. There is now a standard written specifically for shade fabrics: the Australian standard AS 4174, which gives a UVE rating (short for Ultraviolet Effectiveness). That standard is what we have chosen to embrace moving forward, and every SnoozeShade is tested to it by ARPANSA, at their government laboratory.
Most of SnoozeShade Plus Extra, the top and sides, is always a double layer of mesh. At the front there's a zip-up see-out panel, a single layer, so your child can see out while awake. Pop the snooze panel on over the top and that part becomes double-layered too, so the whole shade reaches the same protection when it's time to sleep.
| Part of the shade | UV protection | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| Top and sides (always double layer) | A minimum of 97% of UV | "Most Effective" |
| Zip-up see-out panel on its own, shade mode (single layer) | Over 80% of UV | "Effective" |
| Zip-up see-out panel with snooze panel on in snooze mode (double layer) | A minimum of 97% of UV | "Most Effective" |
"Most Effective" is the highest sun protection category there is, and it starts at 95%. Because the double layer of mesh is rated a minimum of 97%, it meets ARPANSA's threshold for shade fabric that can provide all-day protection from solar UV.
🌞 It's not just summer
In Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, the UV index is 3 or above every single day of the year, not just in summer. NSW isn't far behind, at 3+ for at least 10 months. If you're used to thinking "it's hot, so I need shade," in Australia the number that actually matters is the UV index, not the temperature. Read more about SnoozeShade in Australia.
What it does
SnoozeShade Plus Extra works two ways, depending on whether your child is awake or napping.
- Shade mode: the zip-up see-out panel, a single layer of black mesh, lets your child see out while blocking over 80% of UV, plus wind, light rain, chill and insects.
- Snooze mode: add the outer snooze panel and secure it with the hook-and-loop straps to create a darker, distraction-free space that blocks up to 94% of light and a minimum of 97% of UV.
A sleeping-baby emblem asks passers-by not to disturb your child, and the sneak-a-peek zip lets you check on them without letting in light. Both panels roll up and tuck into the integrated front pocket when not in use.
What it's ideal for
SnoozeShade Plus Extra is for any child who is in the stroller seat, whatever their age. What matters is the seat, not how old they are. If your little one is lying flat in a pram or carry cot, SnoozeShade Original is the better fit.
It fits any single-width pram, pushchair or jogging stroller with a hood. Many families use it for years — our founder, Cara, used hers on and off until her daughter was five.
Sun safety guidance for babies
Cancer Council Australia recommends that babies under 12 months are kept out of direct sunlight whenever the UV index reaches 3 or above. In Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, that's every single day of the year.
SnoozeShade makes that easy to put into practice: it creates shade wherever you are, without trapping heat the way a fully lowered stroller hood can. It also means your child can still see out, which matters once they're upright and taking in the world around them.
Safety and airflow
SnoozeShade is made from our air-permeable EziBreez® mesh, tested to rigorous air-permeability standards, so air flows freely even when fully closed. There's no sealed air chamber and no greenhouse effect.
- Fastens with hook-and-loop, with no long straps, toggles, magnets or buttons that could pose a choking, strangulation or entrapment risk.
- No toxic dyes or chemicals. Every part is tested to the same standards as a newborn toy.
- The only range of pram and sleep shades approved by INPAA, Australia's leading nursery safety authority.
- Trusted by over half a million families worldwide.
FAQs
Will it fit my stroller?
Yes. It fits any single-width pram, pushchair or jogging stroller with a hood.
How much sun protection does it give?
SnoozeShade Plus Extra is rated "Most Effective", the highest sun protection category there is under the Australian shade fabric standard AS 4174. It's tested by ARPANSA, the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. "Most Effective" starts at 95%, and the double layer of mesh blocks a minimum of 97% of UV. The zip-up see-out panel on its own is a single layer, blocks over 80% of UV and is rated "Effective".
Why not just use the stroller hood?
A fully lowered hood is usually thick, solid fabric built to keep rain out, not to let air through, so it can trap heat rather than protect your child from it. It also blocks their view entirely, which matters once they're sitting up. Read more about why SnoozeShade is different.
Is it machine washable?
Yes. Machine wash at 30 degrees and tumble dry on low heat.

Take me to the instructions pageI’m in love with my pram snoozeshade, made my outings around naps so much less stressful. My 8 months old sleeps and stays asleep in the pram now for the whole nap! Thank you Snoozeshade!
This is a wonderful piece of kit, that saves having to worry about sun on baby. In the week we’ve had it, it’s been used in the mountains where we live (higher UV), indoors to help with nap time, and at the beach where we didn’t have any other shade cover. Practical and easy to use.
The fabric is good and breathable, help my daughter sleep better on our walk. Really recommended 10/10
I have been using the snooze shade for my 18 month old who has been having lovely sun safe naps on the go. I wish we had discovered this earlier. It allows great airflow while protecting their fragile skin. I love the peekaboo window too! Another great benefit is you can use it on your regular project am and travel pram. The Snoozeshade extra folds down to a compact size making it easy to keep handy on trips away.
The Snooze Shade was easy to fit. It protects my bub from the sun (main reason for purchasing) and helps baby to drift off to sleep faster in the pram. Really impressed with the quality for the price of this product.
